HAPPY NEWYEAR to everyone from all of us here at Barking Barnyard!

Upgrades: In the last Newsletter (September 2008) I mentioned some “Up-coming changes”.  One was adding an additional grass play yard (110’x50’).  We’ve actually added two, one large and one medium sized.  So now there are three large play yards measuring 110’x50’, 30’x40’ and a 30’x70’ which has a huge dirt pile in it for those diggers.  This has given us so much more play space for the dogs.  I also mentioned adding a shrub barrier between the kennels and play yards, which we did.  We planted a total of 90 boxwoods.  It’s not quite a “barrier” yet. :) The last upgrade mentioned was to replace the dirt walkway in front of the kennels with a nice layer of pea-gravel.  we haven’t done this one yet.  Although, there are a few kennel back flippers that have shoved a ton of gravel out in the path so it has helped…You know who you are.  :-)

As for upgrades that weren’t on the list; we now have an indoor feeding station.  We added a 10x10x10 barn/shed in the kennel area. This is where all the food and treats are kept.  There is a loft too, which has given us a ton of storage space.  We’ve also added lights and a heater!  YES a heater!  So now we can be warmer this winter while all the dogs are out playing.  We’ve also added heated water bowls in all kennels.  Play yard lights have also been installed.

Up-coming changes: By Summer of 2010 we are planning to have 5 more kennels.  This project is going to be Jarrod’s (my hubby).  Jarrod has put a lot of thought into this and is very excited to start building.  These kennels are going to be a little different than the 10 we have.  We are going to call them “doggie dens”.  That’s all I’m going to tell you, you’ll just have to come check them out!  We are all very excited about them.

Special Thanks: To my husband Jarrod for his continued support and all his hard work with the upgrades.  To Katie Brandt and Lois Bourgeois for taking care of the dogs while I went into labor that Friday afternoon November 21st to have my son Tyler. Couldn’t have done it without you two!!

Barking Barnyard Staff: Israel Cervantes has been with us for over a year now.  He was hired on in September of 2008.  Being 7 months pregnant at the time, I needed some good help.  He was only supposed to be temporary until I found a full time employee.   He was immediately loved by the dogs and all of you.  I truly believe I was blessed.  He also stuck out the COLD winter.  There was a time when it was -7 degrees here.  He showed up that morning right on time just like he always does.  Thank you so much Israel, you’re the best!!!

Esther Schilperoort started here just a few months ago.  She loves animals and has been very excited about this job.  All the dogs have taken to her just like she has always been here.  Thank you Esther for all your great help.
